Social Forestry
'Social Forestry', a program to encourage tree planting, has been in operation since 1976, The goal of this policy is to make forest plantation a mass movement. Non- governmental organizations are also supporting in this. There are three elements of social forestry which are as follows-
(i) Agro-forestry To encourage farmers to plant trees in their fields by giving free seeds and small plants.
(ii) Rural or Community Forestry-Plantation by mass on public land for public land for public use. It is a self- employed program of social forestry.
(iii) Urban or Public forestry Planting of fast growing plants by the Forest Department on roads, canals, and other public lands.
